Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce’s Website
Wins Second International Web Award
The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the Chamber's website, www.CatalinaChamber.com is the recipient of a prestigious Webby Award for an Official Honoree in the Tourism category.
Hailed as the “the only award show for Internet sites that matters” by the Los Angeles Times and as "internet's highest honor" by the New York Times, the Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
The Webby Awards are granted in four categories: Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film and Video, and Mobile Web sites. With nearly 70 categories and over 8000 website entries from all 50 states and 60 countries worldwide, Websites make up the majority of Webby Awards Winners, Nominees and Honorees.
Website category winners are selected for recognition based on excellence in the following criteria: Content, Structure and Navigation, Visual Design, Functionality, Interactivity and Overall Experience. As a result of the superior quality of sites entered, the 14th Annual Webby Awards recognized the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce‟ website and Trinet Internet Solutions, the design team for the Chamber's site, as demonstrating a high standard of excellence. Of the over 8000 website entries submitted, fewer than 15% were distinguished as an Official Honoree. This honor signifies an outstanding caliber of work; to be selected among the best is an incredible achievement.
Joining Catalina Island's Official Honoree Webby Award in the Tourism Category are 11 other sites including the Canadian Tourism Commission, Tourism New Zealand, and Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways and the Winchester Mystery House.
Catalina Island's website was launched in May of 2009. Wayne Griffin, President and CEO of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce states: "We are delighted to have our Catalina Island website recognized internationally for the second time in the past year as one of the outstanding websites in the world for travel and tour information." Last September the Chamber's www.CatalinaChamber.com site won the "Outstanding Website" WebAward from the Web Marketing Association (WMA) which evaluated over 2000 websites from around the world in 96 different categories.
The Webby Awards are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences at the Annual Webby Gala in New York City on June 14th, 2010. Established in 1996, last year's Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries in the four categories from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.
